Michael Moore is the founder
of Mike Moore & Sons Construction, a Canadian owned
construction company incorporated in 1989. The company is
privately owned.
Michael Moore attended Sault College where
he was enrolled in the Architectural Technology program.
In 1974 he worked at various jobs including a steel fabrication
company and was shop foreman for a glass and window shop.
In 1976 he left that business to join J. P. Pierman Construction
Ltd., a privately owned company. Pierman was a small construction
company that did home renovations and small commercial projects.
As Pierman grew over the next 13 years, Michael worked his
way up the ladder as a labourer, carpenter, foreman, Project
Manager and eventually wound up as Chief Estimator. Pierman
grew rapidly and was working throughout Northern Ontario
and had a project in Nova Scotia. Their annual volume soared
to over $28 million. Although Michael was not involved in
any management decisions, he learned what not to do as a
business owner. Unfortunately, the company got into some
financial troubles and filed for bankruptcy in 1989.
In September of 1989, armed with a small loan,
Michael Moore incorporated Mike Moore & Sons Construction
Ltd. He had an excellent working relationship with Pierman's
former bonding company and was awarded several of the Pierman
projects to complete. Mike Moore & Sons first office
was in the basement of Michael's home. As the company grew,
the office was relocated to the renovated garage and Michael
hired several ex-Pierman employees, namely Ken Stitt, Dwayne
Phillips, Ken Coventry and Wayne Seibt who are still with
the company today.
Michael has over 30 years of construction
experience and received his Gold Seal Certification for
Estimating (General Contracting) in February of 1995. Michael
is an active member of the business and construction community,
he currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Ontario
General Contractors Association (OGCA), he is a member of
the OGCA Safety Committee, former President and current
Vice-President of the Sault Ste. Marie Construction Association
(SSMCA), he is the founding member of the SSMCA first ever
Safety Committee, he is a member of the CEO Health &
Safety Leadership Charter and he is a member of the Canadian
Blood Services Advisory Panel as well as being an avid blood
donor. He is also involved in campaigning with the Co-Chair
of the Sault Area Hospitals Capital Campaign committed to
raising over $20 million for the new hospital.
Michael is a strong advocate of putting his
employees, clients and subcontractors first and treating
them all with respect. He knows that his employees are the
most important asset the company has. He takes an aggressive
role in shaping the corporate destiny and surrounds himself
with motivated, aggressive and enthusiastic management people.
He believes that the company must invest in current technology
to remain as a leader. He is actively involved with the
company Safety Program and considers Safety as the number
one priority both on and off the job.
Michael Moore is making sure that Mike Moore
& Sons Construction Ltd. continues to grow and prosper
and is the front runner of Northern Ontario construction
companies.
